April 2009
We
have had a busy start to the year. All the hunters are now enjoying a well
earned holiday and the event horses are fit and ready to go. We have a few
additions to the yard in the form of a few new horses from Ireland.
Most importantly, I'd like to welcome to our team Jo,
who is very experienced and will be a valuable asset to the horses and the
running of the yard.
Dennis, Henry and Teddy Bear all
qualified for the BE jump training finals at
Moreton Morrel
and all put in good solid performances at the
finals.
Carly and Toska have both been placed
every time out doing winter dressage and now have ODE and BE runs planned
this spring.
Louis has returned home after a great
educating winter at the Fairbanks'
home where he has been hunting, doing PC rallies, hunter trials and PC S/J
team with all the children. He now needs to go to a new home and is ready to
sell.
Bailey has yet again been a superstar,
having field mastered several days beautifully. He gained 68.4% first time
out at dressage this spring (placed 2nd).
All the horses are fit and competing. They are enjoying various outings
including dressage, ODEs / SJ / WHs & XC.
Forcoming Events
Northallerton ODE -
Teddy
and Boss.
Draycott Horse Trials -
Bailey, Bumble Bee
and Malaki.
Middleton Show -
Story, Louis
and Foxy.
August 2008
Our feet have hardly touched the floor and we are only half way through the
month!
03/08 - Thornton Watlass Horse Trials
- Both Bumble Bee
and Jack
did good dressage tests, 2 SJs down a piece
and both stormed round the X/C with a good clear round each.
06/08 - Thornton-le-Dale Show
- Topper
came 5th in the ridden hunter.
Story
jumped a good round to come 3rd in the 15.0 hh WHP.
Mr Maybe
was beautifully behaved to win the hunter pony breeding yearlings.
09/08 - BSJA
- Malarki
jumped a beautiful double clear to win a
large British novice class. Bailey
jumped well in the 1.10 m but just dropped a rail.
13/08 - Port Royal ODE
- Teddy Bear
did his first ODE - he lead the dressage, had a rail down SJ and jumped
clear X/C and was placed 3rd. He now has runs lined up and is a
multi-talented horse. He is a huntsmans horse for his owner Major Tim Easby,
who kindly allows me to compete me to compete him during the summer.
15/08 - Ponies UK
- We made our forst trip to the very well known Summer Championships.
Boss
qualified for the Commanchee Piebald and Skewbald Ridden Championships. He
behaved beautifully and did a pleasing show to be placed a creditable 4th.
17/08 - Richmond Horse Trials
- I was honored to receive a call from British Eventing asking if I would be
the Rider Representative at the event. However, just 10 minutes away from
home I received a call to say the event was unfortunately cancelled due to
heavy overnight rain. What a shame as the organisers put in so much hard
work, but safety and ground conditions must come first.
June 2008
Our hunt show was victim to torrential rain. Despite this
Topper
came 5th in the ridden hunter. Our hunt relay team had a good warm up for
the Yorkshire Show.
BSJA - Mr Marmalade
and Jack
both enjoyed good rounds and Marmalade
came 3rd.
May 2008
It
feels as though our feet have hardly touched the ground this month - its
been flat out with events, youngsters and teaching.
Dressage - Boss
and Misty
had placings at Port Royal,
both gaining the percentages in the high 60's.
Marmalade
enjoyed a win in a novice by over 10%.
S/J - We've made several trips to Port
Royal.
Topper,
Oscar,
Brownie,
Smurf
and Miller
have all enjoyed successful outings.
Eventing
Richmond - As ever, Richmond is a
friendly event and guarantees a confidence giving run for a youngster. Both
Bailey
(PN) and
Bumble Bee
(Intro) jumped double clears with room to work on the flat, but are full of
confidence. We also saw Gypsy
and
Spot On who we sold to juniors paced
4th and 7th in the Intro and looking forward to more events.
Bishop Burton - If nothing else at
Bishop Burton, the event guarantees a good fitness regime! We walked for
miles to everywhere, and after 2 days competing, we were glad for a rest.
Bailey had a much better dressage and
jumped a beautiful clear X/C. What a pity I enjoyed the good weather and
beautifully presented fences instead of kicking on a little more, as time
faults knocked us out of the placings.

Draycott - This is probably one of the
most friendly events we've been to in a long time. Everything was
beautifully presented and most efficiently run.
Bailey managed to contain himself in
the dressage to gain a mid way mark, however he didn't contain himself so
well in the S/J, knocked 2 rails but redeemed himself beautifully X/C and
went clear inside the time.
Bumble Bee again did a mid way test,
but jumped a neat double clear - his confidence is bubbling and came 8th.

April 2008
The effects of the weather cancelled events we were due to run at, so we've
been S/J and dressage as much as possible.
BSJA - Katie
was pleased with double clears with
Jack, Bumble Bee, Summer and Marmalade,
whilst Charlotte,
our junior rider, won 2 classes on
Smurf and had 2 double clears with
Foxy.
Grasshoppers
finals 2008
We
travelled down to Moreton Morrell
for a fantastic event run by Fiona
Saxby. A great competition for a young
horse and we'd recommend it for 2009.
Bumble Bee jumped clear in the first
round and then grew in confidence and boldness in the 2nd, just clipping a
rail, finishing just out of the placings.
Charlotte jumped
Foxy
and the pair got on very well, again clear in the 1st round and rode a text
book round in the 2nd, but just caught the last rail.
Both horses were very pleasing and enjoyed the weekend away.
March 2008
Port Royal
- The
Bainbridges
run a fantastic event centre at
Port Royal. It provides a brilliant
outing for all the horses and a great preparation for the event horses.
We
took two lorry loads of horses to SJ at
Port Royal.
Katie
jumped
Oliver
for his owner who is away in Canada. He jumped two double clears and was
placed.
Sticky was very excited to be out
competing - he did a great job jumping a beautiful double clear and was
placed.
Margi,
our junior rider based with us jumped
Smurf
beautifully and won her class with a text book double clear.
All the horses have been competing at dressage in preparation for the season
at
Port Royal
and we had a run of results.
Jack won the elementary with 68% and
won the novice with 70%.
Oliver enjoyed success with consistant
placings and qualified for the winter championships.
Marmalade,
Dennis
and Bumble Bee
have all enjoyed outings and have been placed consistently.
Oasby Horse Trials
- The first event of the season has come around quickly. Our homebred
youngster Bumble Bee
did a good test and certainly enjoyed
the jumping. He stormed round with a double clear and came 5th in the intro.
Bailey certainly seems to have
benefitted from his season hunting and occasionally whipping in. He competed
in his first ever intro, just had a rail down SJ, but flew round the X/C and
came 10th!
Margi
did well in her first run of the season with
Summer Lovin
- just a rail down and clear X/C and came 8th in the intro.
Now we can make a plan for all the horses for an exciting year!
February 2008
Things are getting busier. We hosted the
PC International
Hunting Exchange 2008
and invited teams from the USA, Ireland and GBR to
hunt in Yorkshire and Wiltshire. All went very well.
Brownie,
Smurf
and
Bailey
took part in the exchange.
Bumble Bee,
Bailey and
Foxy
(ridden by
Charlotte) all competed in the
Grasshoppers
BE SJ qualifier. All
jumped very well, gained consistent marks and
Bumble Bee
qualified for the finals in Warwickshire in April!
January 2008
The event horses are back in work.
All the hunters have been busy.
December 2007
All the hunters are having a busy season.
Mac,
Dennis and
Bailey all travelled to
Kingswood EC, Birmingham over New
Year to compete in an International
Student Riding Nations Cup, in dressage
and SJ.
All went well with pleasing resiults.
Mac even got his photo in
Horse & Hound!
September 2007
Winkburn -
Bumble
came 7th and Margi (our junior rider based with us) came 7th at her first BE
run.
New Additions - We have bought
Bailey, a
16.1hh Connemara x ID dun gelding to hunt and event next season. He won his
first WH and went double clear, placed 2nd at his first ODE. We're all very
excited about him for the future.
Matilda
- a horse than recently came in from Ireland,
has had a foal! A huge surprise to us all!!
August 2007
At last, we started eventing after a couple
of injury setbacks. All the horses thought they were turning into dressage
and SJ pros!
Richmond -
Jack had a pleasing test, one down
SJ and jumped well and clear XC.
Bumble was a very star struck baby - good
test, 1 down SJ and clear XC.
July 2007
Jack
and
Dennis
competed at the
Northern Dressage Championship
June 2007
Katie
took the opportunity to teach PC camps in
North Virginia, USA
for 3 weeks.
